We visited the Yamanashi Prefectual Maglev Exhibition Hall, adjacent to the 50 km test track for their superconducting maglev train. There’s still no actual maglev service, but it is under construction. The most insane thing is that 86-90% of the 286 km line from Tokyo to Nagoya will be in tunnels, so that it can go as straight as possible - meaning under the Japanese Alps.
